Frequently asked questions

What happens in the first session?

The first session is a chance for us to meet, for you to share a little about what's brought you to counselling, and for me to explain how I work. There's no pressure to share more than you're comfortable with. We'll also talk about what you're hoping to get from the sessions.

How many sessions will I need?

There's no set number. Some people find that six to twelve sessions gives them what they need; others prefer to work over a longer period. We'll review how things are going as we go, and you're free to end at any point.

Is everything I say confidential?

Yes — everything you share is confidential. The only exceptions are if I have serious concerns about your safety or the safety of others, or if I'm required to disclose by law. I'll always discuss this with you if it becomes relevant.

Do you offer online sessions?

Yes. Online sessions are available via a secure video call and work just as well as in-person sessions for most people. If you're unsure which format suits you, we can talk it through.

What if I need to cancel?

I ask for at least 48 hours' notice if you need to cancel or rearrange a session. Sessions cancelled with less than 48 hours' notice may be charged at the full rate.

Are you a member of a professional body?

Yes — I'm a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and work within their ethical framework. This means you can trust that your wellbeing is always at the centre of our work.

Still have questions?

I'm happy to answer anything before you decide to book. Just drop me a message.
